Where to Go and What to Do in Rainy Hoi An?
The persistent rain in Hoi An completely disrupted all of our plans. Yet, amidst the downpour, I stumbled upon the Le Duc Ha Ceramic Workshop, a place so captivating that I found myself returning the next day when the skies cleared, this time with my camera in hand to capture its beauty. We had envisioned a delightful itinerary filled with strolls through the ancient town, outdoor parties under the stars, and sunny beach days. Instead, endless rain washed those dreams away. The weather forecast showed no signs of improvement for the coming week, leaving me to wonder: should I just stay cooped up in the hotel? Or is there another way to make the most of my trip?
Determined not to let the weather ruin everything, I began researching what I could do in Hoi An during the rainy season. Within 30 minutes of scrolling, I discovered a hidden gem – the Le Duc Ha Ceramic Workshop, a less-traveled but fascinating destination. This wasn’t just another tourist spot like Thanh Ha Pottery Village, which I passed by on my way. Instead, this workshop promised a more authentic, creative experience that immediately piqued my interest.
The Journey to Le Duc Ha Ceramic Workshop
The workshop is located about 8 kilometers from Hoi An’s ancient town. Renting a scooter, I set out on a 20-minute ride that took me past peaceful countryside scenes
Arriving at the Le Duc Ha Ceramic Workshop, I was struck by its unique architecture. Built entirely from interlocking red bricks, the structure allows light and air to flow freely through its open design. The peaceful surroundings, combined with the impressive building, made the place feel like a living, breathing piece of art.
Meeting the Artist and Exploring the Workshop
The workshop is divided into different sections: areas for mixing clay, firing pottery, and finalizing pieces. There’s also a space for visitors to try their hand at pottery and an art gallery displaying Le Duc Ha’s creations. Each piece told a unique story, reflecting countless hours of dedication and creativity.

At the heart of the workshop, I met Le Duc Ha himself, deeply engrossed in creating his latest masterpiece. His passion for pottery was palpable, and his words were inspiring: “Let your soul fly, and your hands will know what to create.” This simple yet profound advice resonated with me throughout the day.

Trying My Hand at Pottery
Encouraged by the artist, I decided to try making something myself. At first, my hands fumbled with the clay, but soon, I found myself absorbed in the process. The act of creating something from scratch was both challenging and rewarding. My finished product wasn’t perfect (and I’m too embarrassed to share a photo of it!), but the experience was unforgettable.
The Workshop
This hands-on activity reminded me that sometimes, the journey is more important than the result. It’s not about creating a flawless piece but about enjoying the act of creation itself. ^_^
A Meaningful Day in the Rain
As I left the workshop, the rain continued to fall, but it no longer felt like an obstacle. Instead, it seemed to enhance the tranquil beauty of the riverside village. My morning at Le Duc Ha Ceramic Workshop was a testament to finding joy and inspiration in unexpected places.
If you’re ever in Hoi An during the rainy season, I highly recommend visiting this hidden gem. It’s a peaceful retreat where art and life intertwine, offering an experience that’s both meaningful and memorable. - Trace Travel
